Christopher Jardine, Tax Evasion, Connecticut 2024

The Grimy Times has uncovered a disturbing trend of business owners evading taxes, and the latest case to come to light is that of Christopher Jardine, a 55-year-old Guilford resident who has pleaded guilty to tax evasion charges.

Jardine, a part owner of D&A Construction Management, Inc. in Branford, was responsible for collecting and paying over federal taxes from his employees, as well as ensuring that his company paid its share of FICA taxes. However, an investigation revealed that Jardine failed to pay over approximately $868,000 in withheld employee taxes between 2016 and 2019.

According to court documents, Jardine used millions of dollars in company funds to pay personal expenses, including a 52-foot cigarette boat, a Range Rover, high-end clothing, and auto parts, and to make payments on behalf of Straight Jacket USA, LLC, a Guilford business controlled by Jardine.

Jardine pleaded guilty to one count of willful failure to pay over withholding taxes and has agreed to pay approximately $2,070,000 in restitution to the IRS, an amount that includes interest and penalties. He has already paid approximately $1,197,600 of his restitution obligation.

Jardine is scheduled to be sentenced on July 28 and faces a maximum term of imprisonment of five years. He was released on a $50,000 bond pending sentencing.

As the Grimy Times continues to investigate this case, we urge all business owners to take note of the serious consequences of tax evasion. It is clear that Jardine’s actions were not only criminal but also devastating to the local economy.
