A Harvey man has been indicted and arrested on child pornography charges. CHRISTOPHER ORGERON, 33, was taken into federal custody yesterday at his place of employment in Westwego by special agents with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations.
According to the indictment, ORGERON knowingly received child pornography images and videos depicting the sexual victimization of minors. The crimes are alleged to have taken place at an unknown time and continuing up to June 25, 2015.
If convicted, ORGERON faces a mandatory minimum sentence of five years and a maximum penalty of up to twenty years imprisonment, followed by up to a lifetime term of supervised release, and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite reiterated that the indictment is merely a charge and that the guilt of the defendant must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt.
This case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
The prosecution of this case is being handled by Project Safe Childhood Coordinator and Fraud Section Chief, Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba.
