BOSTON – A New Hampshire company sold a total of 1,724 counterfeit New England Patriots AFC Championship and Super Bowl t-shirts during the 2015 NFL playoffs.
CK Productions, Inc., based in Pelham, N.H., was caught printing and selling the counterfeit t-shirts between January and February 2015. The total retail value of the counterfeit goods was approximately $29,405.
The counterfeit t-shirts bore the trademarked words “Patriots” and “Super Bowl” and the Patriots logo, which is owned by New England Patriots LLC.
U.S. District Court Senior Judge Mark L. Wolf scheduled sentencing for Sept. 6, 2017. The penalty for trafficking in counterfeit goods against a corporation is a fine of no greater than $5 million.
Acting United States Attorney William D. Weinreb and Matthew Etre, Special Agent in Charge of Homeland Security Investigations in Boston, made the announcement today.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Adam Bookbinder, Chief of Weinreb’s Cyber Crime Unit, is prosecuting the case.
This case is a reminder of the importance of protecting intellectual property rights. The NFL and its teams work hard to create brand recognition and value, and counterfeiters like CK Productions seek to undermine that effort.
