Cliburn’s Montana Meth Empire Crumbles: Feds Bring the Heat

BIG SKY, MONTANA – In a major blow to organized crime in rural Montana, federal authorities have brought down a massive methamphetamine trafficking operation run by 42-year-old Kyle Cliburn.

A grand jury indictment unsealed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Montana (Docket No. 1:24-cr-00025) charges Cliburn with one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute 500 grams or more of methamphetamine, a Schedule II controlled substance, and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering.

According to court documents, Cliburn’s operation spanned multiple counties in western Montana, with ties to other major players in the state’s methamphetamine trade.

The investigation, led by the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Montana Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), began in 2022 and involved numerous undercover operations and wiretaps.

Cliburn’s operation is estimated to have generated millions of dollars in revenue, with the defendant allegedly using the proceeds to purchase luxury vehicles, real estate, and other high-end assets.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Montana, Kris McLean, praised the collaborative effort between federal and state agencies, saying ‘Today’s indictment is a testament to our commitment to dismantling the complex web of organized crime that plagues our communities.’

Cliburn, who was taken into custody without incident, faces a minimum of 10 years in federal prison and a maximum of life imprisonment if convicted on both charges. He is currently being held at the Missoula County Detention Center pending trial.
