NEW LONDON, Conn. – In a brazen display of defiance, ten members of the US Coast Guard’s 89th unit pleaded guilty to imbibing in stolen liquor on the very night it was seized from a captured rum runner. The Flor Del Mar, a notorious rum runner, had been intercepted by the Coast Guard and its cargo of 4,000 cases of whisky unloaded. But instead of enjoying a hard-won victory, the Coast Guard men succumbed to temptation and drank the loot themselves. The guilty men, whose names remain undisclosed, admitted to becoming intoxicated during the night of the seizure, and now face the music.
