Coeur d’Alene Man Gets 78-Month Sentence for Child Pornography Possession

COEUR D’ALENE – Kody Ray Gibbs, 29, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, was sentenced today in United States District Court to 78 months in prison followed by 15 years of supervised release for possession of sexually explicit images of minors. U.S. Attorney Wendy J. Olson announced the sentence.

Gibbs pleaded guilty on June 22, 2016, after police discovered child pornography on a tablet-computer he had returned for a refund. The investigation was launched when a local woman purchased the tablet from an open box sale and found the explicit content.

According to the plea agreement, Gibbs admitted to downloading the child pornography, leading to his conviction. As a result of his crime, Gibbs will be required to register as a sex offender and undergo sex offender treatment following his prison sentence.

The case was investigated by the Coeur d’Alene Police Department and the Kootenai County Prosecutor’s Office, which participate in the Idaho Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. The ICAC Task Force is a statewide coalition focused on apprehending and prosecuting individuals who use the Internet to criminally exploit children.
