Colby Ray Barrick, a 41-year-old man from Love County, Oklahoma, has pleaded guilty to Felon In Possession Of Firearm, in violation of Title 18, United States Code, Sections 922(g)(1) and 924(a)(2), punishable by not more than 10 years imprisonment, up to a $250,000.00 fine, or both.
The guilty plea was announced by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, and is the result of an investigation by the Oklahoma Department of Wildlife Conservation and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
According to the Indictment, on or about October 25, 2017, Barrick, having been convicted of a crime punishable by imprisonment for a term exceeding one year, did knowingly possess in and affecting commerce, a firearm, to-wit: One (1) Savage, Model 64, .22 caliber rifle, serial number 2593140, which had been shipped and transported in interstate commerce.
The Honorable Kimberly E. West, U.S. Magistrate Judge in the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Oklahoma, in Muskogee, accepted the plea and ordered the completion of a presentence investigation report.
Assistant United States Attorney Dean Burris represented the United States in this case. The charges against Barrick demonstrate the commitment of law enforcement to enforcing federal firearms laws and keeping communities safe from individuals who pose a threat to public safety.
The plea is a significant development in the case, and Barrick now faces the possibility of serious prison time and fines. The case will now move forward to sentencing, where Barrick will learn his fate.
