A devastating fentanyl distribution case has come to a close in Iowa. Colby Joseph Manley, 26, was sentenced to 98 months in federal prison for his role in distributing the deadly substance.
Manley, a resident of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, was found guilty of four counts of distribution and aiding and abetting the distribution of a controlled substance and two counts of distribution of a controlled substance. The guilty plea came on January 8, 2024.
According to evidence presented in the case, Manley distributed fentanyl on six separate occasions between December 2022 and February 2023, under cover law enforcement officers purchasing pills containing the substance from him.
In April 2022, Manley distributed an amount of fentanyl that caused another person to suffer an overdose and die, leading to a lengthy investigation and eventual sentencing.
Manley was sentenced in Cedar Rapids by United States District Court Chief Judge C.J. Williams. As part of his sentence, he must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Adam J. Vander Stoep and was investigated as part of the Northern Iowa Heroin Initiative and the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) program of the United States Department of Justice through a cooperative effort of the Johnson County Drug Task Force and the Cedar Rapids Police Department.
The Johnson County Drug Task Force consists of the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, the Iowa City Police Department, the Coralville Police Department, the North Liberty Police Department, the University of Iowa Police Department, and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.
