SHREVEPORT, La. – Kelvin Broadway, 26, of Shreveport, received a 57-month (4 years, 9 months) federal prison sentence for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon, announced Acting United States Attorney Alexander C. Van Hook.
Broadway’s conviction stems from an incident on January 6, 2019, when Shreveport Police Department officers discovered two loaded handguns in his possession during a traffic stop. The firearms were found concealed in a shopping bag between Broadway’s feet.
Under federal law, it is illegal for anyone with a prior felony conviction to possess a firearm or ammunition. Broadway has a history of criminal activity in Caddo Parish, Louisiana, including convictions for theft, possession of a controlled substance, and illegally carrying weapons while in possession of a controlled substance.
The ATF and Shreveport Police Department worked together to investigate the case, with Assistant United States Attorneys Mike Shannon and Tennille Gilreath leading the prosecution. Broadway pleaded guilty on April 24, 2020.
