VICTORIA, Texas – A Victoria man has been sentenced to federal prison for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, according to a recent court ruling. Corey Hammon Green, 29, was convicted at trial on October 24, 2012, for the crime of being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
Senior U.S. District Judge John D. Rainey sentenced Green to the maximum 120 months in prison, with a three-year-term of supervised release following his completion of his prison term. This case was the result of a joint investigation by agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Victoria Police Department.
The evidence presented at trial revealed that Green was facilitating a prostitution ring at the time of his arrest. In late 2011, he took one of his victims to a local Victoria hotel, where she had previously contacted law enforcement. Green was arrested by the Victoria Police Department after he waited outside in his vehicle for an extended period without seeing the woman.
During the search of his vehicle, officers discovered a firearm in a compartment in the rear of the vehicle. Further testimony revealed that Green had possessed and brandished a firearm on multiple drug deals and had assaulted one of his female victims with the firearm.
Green has been in custody since his arrest and will remain there pending sentencing. The indictment and conviction of Green were the result of the joint investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Victoria Police Department. The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Patricia Hubert Booth.
Green’s sentencing is a significant blow to those involved in firearms-related crimes in Texas. The case highlights the importance of law enforcement agencies working together to bring perpetrators to justice.
Green will serve 120 months in prison, followed by a three-year-term of supervised release. This outcome serves as a reminder that being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm is a serious crime with severe consequences.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Victoria Police Department are to be commended for their tireless efforts in bringing this case to a successful conclusion.
As a result of this case, Green’s future is now uncertain, and his actions will have far-reaching consequences. This decision serves as a warning to those who would engage in similar activities.
