Corey J. Hayes, Child Pornography, Nebraska 2023

Falls City man Corey J. Hayes, 32, was sentenced to 9 1/2 years in prison for receipt and distribution of child pornography, according to a recent U.S. Attorney’s office announcement.

Hayes was sentenced by Chief United States District Judge John M. Gerrard in Lincoln, Nebraska, after being found guilty of the crime.

In December 2015, an undercover agent with the Department of Homeland Security initiated a chat with Hayes on a chat site, during which Hayes engaged in discussions with the agent to meet and have sexual intercourse with a 13-year-old girl.

Hayes also transmitted a photograph of himself to the agent and sent other images depicting young girls, including images that depicted child pornography, using another chat application.

In January 2016, Homeland Security agents received information from the chat application, which confirmed Hayes’ location as Falls City, Nebraska.

Agents executed a federal search warrant on Hayes’ residence in July 2016 and seized an iMac computer, iPhone 4s, and portable media storage devices.

A forensic examination of the seized devices found 153 files containing child pornography, including six of the images sent to the undercover agent by Hayes.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006.

Hayes will be required to serve 10 years of supervised release after his prison sentence and register as a sex offender.
