Corey J. Stern, Methamphetamine Distribution, Wisconsin 2021

A La Crosse man is facing serious charges for his alleged involvement in distributing methamphetamine in the community.

According to a federal indictment, Corey J. Stern, 35, distributed methamphetamine twice in August 2020, once in January 2021, and possessed 50 grams or more of methamphetamine on June 3, 2021.

The indictment charges Stern with 3 counts of distributing methamphetamine and 1 count of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine with intent to distribute.

On October 13, 2021, a federal grand jury in Madison, Wisconsin returned an indictment against Stern.

The investigation into Stern’s activities was conducted by the La Crosse, Town of Campbell, and Mauston Police Departments, the Wisconsin State Patrol, the Juneau County Sheriff’s Office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Steven Anderson is handling the prosecution of Stern.

If convicted, Stern faces a maximum penalty of 20 years in federal prison on each distribution charge, and a mandatory minimum penalty of 5 years and maximum of 40 years on the charge of possessing 50 grams or more of methamphetamine for distribution.

Stern made an initial appearance in U.S. District Court in Madison today and remains in federal custody pending a detention hearing, which has not been scheduled.
