Corey Leitz, a 42-year-old man from Frankfort, New York, has been sentenced to 151 months in prison for operating a massive marijuana grow operation in Herkimer County.
According to court documents, Leitz’s operation, which was set up in a barn at 162 McIntyre Road, Frankfort, New York, produced over 3,200 marijuana plants. The plants were then sold to numerous customers in Herkimer County and elsewhere.
This is Leitz’s second felony drug conviction. He previously was convicted of a felony drug charge in 1998 in Herkimer County.
The investigation into Leitz’s operation was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration, the New York State Police, and the New York National Guard Counterdrug Task Force.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Geoffrey Brown prosecuted the case, which resulted in Leitz’s guilty plea and subsequent sentencing. Executive Assistant U.S. Attorney John Duncan can be reached for further questions at (315) 448-0672.
Leitz’s sentence includes 151 months in prison, followed by 5 years of supervised release and a $100 special assessment.
Leitz’s case serves as a reminder of the serious consequences of operating a large-scale marijuana manufacturing operation. It also highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement agencies to combat drug trafficking in the region.
