Fort Defiance Man Sentenced to 46 Months for Assault with a Dangerous Weapon
In a shocking turn of events, Corey Slinkey, a 42-year-old man from Fort Defiance, Arizona, has been sentenced to 46 months in prison for assaulting a victim with a dangerous weapon.
The crime, which occurred in August 2017, saw Slinkey intentionally strike and wound the victim, who was pregnant at the time, with a tent pole. Both Slinkey and the victim are members of the Navajo Nation.
The investigation into the crime was conducted by Navajo Nation Criminal Investigations and the Federal Bureau of Investigations. The prosecution was handled by Kiyoko Patterson, Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of Arizona, Phoenix.
Slinkey had previously pleaded guilty to the assault charge, and the sentence was handed down by District Judge Susan M. Brnovich on April 15, 2019.
