Corral-Garcia Charged with Methamphetamine Trafficking

ALBUQUERQUE – A U.S. Magistrate Judge in Albuquerque has found sufficient grounds to charge Juan Carlos Corral-Garcia with methamphetamine trafficking, a crime that shocked law enforcement and the community.

The defendant, 28-year-old Mexican national, was detained by authorities as he poses a flight risk and potential threat to public safety. Corral-Garcia is accused of committing the offense on January 27, 2017, in Bernalillo County.

During a routine traffic stop, New Mexico State Police officers discovered an alarming cache of 10.03 kilograms (22.12 pounds) of methamphetamine. The drugs were meticulously packaged in four clear packages, each containing 20 smaller bundles.

Corral-Garcia now faces a decade-long minimum sentence and potentially a life term if convicted under federal law. He is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

This case has been a joint effort between Homeland Security investigations and the New Mexico State Police, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Samuel A. Hurtado leading the prosecution.

The grim revelation of the methamphetamine seizure underscores the persistent threat of drug trafficking in the region and the unwavering commitment of federal law enforcement to combat such crimes.
