Craig Quintal, 41, of River Ridge, Louisiana, is headed to federal prison after pleading guilty to charges tied to the sexual exploitation of children. The grim outcome marks the end of a disturbing case that exposed Quintal’s repeated access to child pornography, including images of minors under 12 engaged in sexually explicit conduct.
U.S. District Judge Ivan L.R. Lemelle handed down an 18-month prison sentence, followed by 7 years of supervised release. Quintal was also slapped with a $5,000 fine and must register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act. The sentence underscores the federal crackdown on those who consume and perpetuate the cycle of child sexual abuse material.
Court records show Quintal knowingly accessed child pornography beginning at an unknown date and continuing through at least July 15, 2015. The visual depictions involved prepubescent minors, some younger than 12, subjected to explicit sexual acts—material so vile it fuels a global network of exploitation.
The investigation into Quintal’s activities was conducted under the umbrella of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. The program unites federal, state, and local agencies to dismantle networks of child sexual abuse and bring predators to justice.
U.S. Attorney Kenneth A. Polite credited the relentless work of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Homeland Security Investigations, and the Louisiana Bureau of Investigation for cracking the case. Their collaboration led to Quintal’s exposure, arrest, and eventual conviction.
The prosecution was led by Assistant U.S. Attorney Brian M. Klebba, who serves as both Fraud Section Chief and Project Safe Childhood Coordinator. Federal authorities warn the public that accessing child pornography is not a victimless crime—it perpetuates the abuse, re-victimizes children, and guarantees jail time.
