On February 14, 2018, Cristobal Delgado, a 35-year-old Illinois resident, was charged in the Illinois Northern District Federal Court with multiple counts of violent crimes. Delgado was allegedly involved with the Latin Counts gang, a violent gang that terrorized neighborhoods in Chicago. The charges against Delgado included conspiracy to commit murder in aid of racketeering, murder in aid of racketeering, and possession of a firearm by a felon.
The case against Delgado was a result of a five-year investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and the Chicago Police Department. The investigation led to the indictment of 14 members of the Latin Counts gang, including Delgado.
The trial for Delgado began on April 9, 2019, and lasted for several weeks. On May 2, 2019, the jury delivered a guilty verdict on all counts against Delgado. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on August 21, 2019. The sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Ruben Castillo.
