Cumberland Man Pleads Guilty to Illegal Straw Purchases

CAMDEN, N.J. – Darick Nollett, a 32-year-old from Heislerville, Cumberland County, has entered a guilty plea via videoconference for his role in illegal straw purchases of firearms, according to Acting U.S. Attorney Rachael A. Honig.

Nollett, who was previously convicted of a felony, admitted to orchestrating the purchase of five firearms through others between 2018 and 2019. These individuals falsely claimed to be the buyers on ATF records, while Nollett was the actual buyer/transferee. In addition, Nollett ordered ‘fuel filters’ from China with intent to modify them into firearm silencers.

In May 2020, during a court-authorized search of his residence, law enforcement seized over 30 firearms, ammunition, and accessories. As part of today’s plea agreement, Nollett will surrender all these items.

U.S. District Judge Michael A. Shipp presided over the videoconference hearing where Nollett pleaded guilty to aiding and abetting the making of a false statement during the purchase of a firearm. This charge carries a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine. Sentencing has been scheduled for April 5, 2022.

Acting U.S. Attorney Honig praised the collaborative efforts of various law enforcement agencies, including special agents from Homeland Security Investigations, ATF Newark Field Division, the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, New Jersey State Police, and the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office, for their role in the investigation that led to Nollett’s guilty plea.

The government is being represented by Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel A. Friedman of the Camden office.
