D.C. Man Gets 10 Years for Crack Cocaine Conspiracy

Washington D.C. – Crevonte Johnson, 25, of Washington, D.C., has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring to distribute over 280 grams of crack cocaine in the Washington, D.C. area.

According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Johnson’s plea was part of a larger investigation into a drug trafficking organization that distributed large amounts of heroin, methamphetamine, and crack cocaine in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. The investigation, which was conducted by the FBI/MPD Safe Streets Task Force, began in late 2015 and led to the indictment of 12 individuals in December 2017.

Johnson, who was 19 at the time of the first purchase, sold crack cocaine to an undercover police officer on multiple occasions between 2015 and 2016. The sales took place in various locations throughout Southeast Washington, including the 2600 block of Birney Place SE and the parking lot of a grocery store in the 2800 block of Alabama Avenue, SE.

Throughout the investigation, Johnson sold the undercover officer approximately $10,080 worth of narcotics. According to plea documents filed in court, Johnson admitted to conspiring to distribute over 280 grams of crack cocaine.

The prosecution was sponsored and supported by the federal Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and was part of a Justice Department initiative called Project Safe Neighborhoods. The initiative aims to generate additional cases targeting drug organizations and identify and address the most violent locations in the District of Columbia.

U.S. Attorney Liu, Assistant Director in Charge McNamara, and Chief Newsham commended the work of those who investigated the case, including the FBI, MPD, U.S. Park Police, Prince George’s County, Md. Police, and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms (ATF). They also expressed appreciation for the assistance provided by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Maryland.

Johnson is set to be sentenced by the Honorable Trevor N. McFadden on October 26, 2018.
