BILLINGS – Damian Andrew Roman, a 26-year-old Billings man, admitted to charges of prohibited person in possession of a firearm today, U.S. Attorney Kurt Alme said.
The crime occurred on December 18, 2024, when Roman was driving a car that got into a crash in Billings. Before law enforcement arrived at the scene, an eyewitness saw Roman throw a bag over a nearby fence. Responding officers found a brown Louis Vuitton bag containing a Glock, Model 48, 9mm caliber pistol loaded with an extended magazine with eighteen rounds of 9mm caliber ammunition.
According to the government, Damian Roman was convicted in 2021 of two felony offenses in the United States District Court for the District of Montana, which prohibit his possession of firearms or ammunition. The U.S. Attorney’s Office prosecuted the case, and the ATF and Billings Police Department conducted the investigation.
The defendant faces 15 years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, and 3 years of supervised release. U.S. Magistrate Judge Timothy J. Cavan presided over the case, and U.S. District Court Judge Susan P. Watters will determine the sentence after considering the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors. Sentencing will be set at a later time.
Roman was detained pending further proceedings. The government alleged in court documents that Damian Roman was convicted in 2021 of two felony offenses in the United States District Court for the District of Montana. These convictions prohibit his possession of firearms or ammunition.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and gun violence in communities. On May 26, 2021, the Department launched a violent crime reduction strategy strengthening PSN based on core principles like fostering trust and legitimacy in communities.
