Armed Robber Sentenced to 32 Years in Prison
A Miami resident, Damon Woodard, 27, was sentenced to 32 years in prison for committing a string of armed robberies in South Florida.
On September 7, 2018, United States District Judge William P. Dimitrouleas handed down the sentence, which will be followed by 5 years of supervised release.
According to the court record, Damon Woodard robbed multiple businesses, including a Murphy Gas Station in Miami Gardens on December 9, 2017, and a BP Gas Station in Dania Beach on December 13, 2017. He also robbed two check-cashing stores in Hialeah with codefendant Suwayne Hylton and admitted to involvement in approximately 20 additional armed robberies in Broward and Miami-Dade Counties.
Suwayne Hylton, Woodard’s codefendant, previously pled guilty to two counts of Hobbs Act Robbery and was sentenced to 84 months in prison with 3 years of supervised release and ordered to pay $16,392 in restitution.
The case was brought under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime by bringing together law enforcement and the communities they serve.
Benjamin G. Greenberg, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, commended the investigative efforts of the ATF, BSO, and Hialeah Police Department, as well as the assistance provided by multiple other police departments.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Jodi L. Anton.
