A 58-year-old Danbury man is going back to prison for 18 months after a brazen bust revealed a stash of fentanyl, cocaine, and firearm parts at his residence.
Paul Mignani, 58, of Danbury, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Jeffrey A Meyer in New Haven for violating the conditions of his federal supervised release.
Mignani was first slapped with a 60-month prison sentence in 2017 for distributing cocaine and heroin, with two women ultimately dying from overdoses linked to his narcotics. Judge Meyer found that Mignani’s distribution of narcotics was directly responsible for the overdose deaths of two women in 2016.
Released from federal prison in June 2020, Mignani was barely two years into his supervised release when authorities conducted a court-authorized search of his Danbury residence on September 12, 2022. The shocking discovery included approximately 48 grams of loose fentanyl, 79 dose bags of fentanyl, 69 grams of cocaine, various prescription pills, items used to process and package narcotics, and firearm parts and ammunition.
Mignani is now facing a 15-year state sentence, suspended after six years, for his new criminal conduct. Judge Meyer imposed the 18-month federal sentence to run consecutively to Mignani’s state sentence.
The investigation was a joint effort between the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Danbury Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Daniel George is prosecuting the case.
The brazen bust serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing war against narcotics in Connecticut. Grimy Times will continue to follow this case and provide updates as more information becomes available.
This is not the first time Mignani has faced the music for his crimes. His lengthy rap sheet is a testament to the destructive nature of the narcotics trade and the consequences that come with it.
The community can rest a little easier knowing Mignani is behind bars once again. But the real question remains: how many more Paul Mignanis are out there, peddling their poison and wreaking havoc on our streets?
