BISMARCK

A Minot man has been sentenced to 12 years and 7 months in prison for his role in a major methamphetamine trafficking operation in the Minot area.

Daniel Adam Connelly, 30, was sentenced on March 23, 2015, in U.S. District Court by Judge Daniel L. Hovland. Connelly was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

According to court documents, law enforcement officials executed a search warrant at Connelly’s residence in October 2012 and found approximately 6.5 ounces of methamphetamine, with a street value of $15,000 to $30,000, in Connelly’s bedroom. The methamphetamine was located inside the drawer of a plastic storage container, and a loaded .357 rifle was found next to the storage container.

Connelly was charged with possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, specifically methamphetamine. The case was investigated by the United States Department of Homeland Security, the Ward County Narcotics Task Force, the North Dakota Bureau of Criminal Investigation, and the Minot Police Department.

Assistant U.S. Attorney David Hagler prosecuted the case.

Connelly will also be required to pay a $100 special assessment to the Crime Victim’s Fund as part of his sentence.

The investigation into Connelly’s activities revealed that he had obtained methamphetamine from Arizona and California in order to distribute it in North Dakota.

Connelly’s sentencing marks a significant blow to the local methamphetamine trade and demonstrates the commitment of law enforcement agencies in the region to combating drug trafficking.
