MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Berkeley County man has been caught in a web of deceit and lies as he admitted to a serious drug charge.
Daniel Hardy, a 33-year-old resident of Martinsburg, West Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of Conspiracy to Distribute Fentanyl and Heroin and Cocaine Base on an unknown date. Hardy’s actions, which took place from August 2020 to June 2021, demonstrate a blatant disregard for the law and the safety of his community.
As part of his plea agreement, Hardy faces up to 20 years of incarceration and a fine of up to $1,000,000. The actual sentence imposed will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and the prior criminal history, if any, of the defendant, as dictated by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
Assistant U.S. Attorneys Lara Omps-Botteicher and Timothy D. Helman are prosecuting the case on behalf of the government, with the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, leading the investigation. U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert W. Trumble presided over the proceedings.
The guilty plea is a significant blow to Hardy, who has now admitted to working with others to distribute fentanyl, heroin, cocaine base, and cocaine hydrochloride throughout Berkeley County and elsewhere. This case serves as a reminder of the dangers of substance abuse and the importance of holding accountable those who seek to profit from it.
As Hardy awaits sentencing, the community can take solace in the knowledge that justice is being served. The case against him is a testament to the tireless efforts of law enforcement agencies and prosecutors who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe.
