Fort Washington’s Daniel Mark Wilkerson, 45, was sentenced to 66 months in federal prison today for his role in a massive drug and prescription theft operation. The U.S. District Judge Paul W. Grimm also ordered Wilkerson to pay $4,450,679.60 in restitution and forfeit $16,320.44.
Wilkerson’s sentence was the culmination of two separate cases. In one instance, he conspired to steal prescription drugs from federal military hospitals, re-selling them at a substantial profit. From 2008 to 2013, Wilkerson worked with Rodger Gurdon and Issa Wasco Koroma, pharmacy technicians who stole Humatrope, Botox, and other growth hormones from pharmacies at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda and Fort Belvoir Community Hospital in Virginia.
The trio’s operation led to the theft of more than $2.1 million worth of Humatrope alone, with a total loss to the United States exceeding $4.467 million. Wilkerson then shipped the stolen pharmaceuticals to California, where they were re-sold for cash and wire transfers.
In a separate case, Wilkerson was also found guilty of possession with intent to distribute more than 100 kilograms of marijuana. On August 11, 2017, law enforcement officers intercepted a shipment of 384 pounds (174 kilograms) of marijuana worth over $1 million at a Baltimore business.
United States Attorney Robert K. Hur, Special Agent in Charge Robert Craig of the Defense Criminal Investigative Service, and Special Agent in Charge Mark S. McCormack of the U.S. Food & Drug Administration announced Wilkerson’s sentence. Judge Grimm emphasized the gravity of Wilkerson’s actions, noting that his crimes not only caused significant financial loss but also undermined the integrity of our nation’s healthcare system.
