Danny Sing and Mark Holmes Sentenced for Bribery, Tax Fraud

SCRANTON- A pair of high-profile felons have been handed prison sentences totaling over four years for their roles in a sprawling commercial bribery and tax fraud scheme. Danny Sing, 61, from Philadelphia, was sentenced to 27 months for his involvement, while Mark Holmes, 67, from Muskogee, Oklahoma, received an 18-month sentence.

United States Attorney Gerard M. Karam revealed that Sing pleaded guilty to conspiring with others to evade $1.36 million in federal employment taxes. Sing and his co-conspirators employed cash payments to conceal income from the IRS, netting over $16.5 million from a Pennsylvania food services company between 2013 and 2020. Sing also faced charges for failing to file personal tax returns, resulting in $390,000 in losses for the IRS.

Holmes pleaded guilty to accepting $400,000 in bribes as the General Manager of a Pennsylvania food services company. In exchange, Holmes hired employees from Global Staffing Services, Inc., and Penns Independent Staffing, which together received $7.8 million from his employer. Holmes also admitted to failing to remit approximately $135,000 in employment taxes.

Madeline Nieves, 49, of Plains, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 15 months for her role in the scheme, having previously pleaded guilty to tax fraud conspiracy. Nari Lam, 31, of Wilmington, Delaware, received three years of probation after pleading guilty to failing to remit employment taxes.

Den Lam, 49, from Philadelphia, faces charges for allegedly conspiring to evade $1.6 million in wages and failing to withhold nearly $1.36 million in federal employment taxes, both related to Global Staffing Services, Inc.

Jason R. Bonnewell, 41, of North Abington Township, Pennsylvania, pleaded guilty to related charges but his sentence was not detailed in the report.
