A Roanoke Rapids man was sentenced to 10 years in prison for charges related to the sale of narcotics and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Danny Steven Bryant, Jr., age 33, pled guilty to thirteen charges, including nine drug-related charges and four counts of possession of a firearm by a felon.

On November 4, 2024, Bryant was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Louise W. Flanagan after pleading guilty to the charges. The charges were brought against Bryant by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina.

According to court documents and other information presented in court, in June 2021, the Nash County Sheriff’s Office began investigating Bryant for narcotics and firearms sales in Nash County, North Carolina. Investigators with the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office conducted multiple controlled purchases from Bryant from June 2021 through November 2021 for methamphetamine, cocaine, heroin, fentanyl, and several firearms.

The firearms included one .223 AR-15 and two high capacity magazines capable of firing 100 rounds of ammunition, a .22 caliber revolver, and two .38 caliber revolvers. Bryant is a convicted felon, having previous convictions for unlawful wounding and felon in possession of a firearm.

The investigation was a collaborative effort by the Nash County Sheriff’s Office, the Federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Roanoke Rapids Police Department, and the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Julie A. Childress and Katherine S. Englander prosecuted the case.
