A ruthless armed robber has been brought to justice after a federal grand jury in Wichita returned an indictment charging him with two counts of interference with interstate commerce by robbery, two counts of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence, and two counts of felon in possession of a firearm.

Darrell E. Black, 28, of Midwest City allegedly committed armed robberies at the Extended Stay America hotel in Wichita on May 27, 2017, and at the Days Inn and Suites hotel in Wichita on May 29, 2017.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is investigating the case, and Assistant U.S. Attorney Lanny Welch is prosecuting the case.

According to court documents, Black allegedly committed the crimes in Wichita, Kansas, and is now facing serious charges. The indictment alleges that Black interfered with interstate commerce by robbing the two hotels, which are part of a national chain.

Black is also charged with brandishing a firearm during the commission of the robberies, which is a serious offense. If convicted, he could face significant prison time and fines.

An indictment is merely an allegation and all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.

The case is a reminder of the importance of public safety and the efforts of law enforcement agencies to bring armed robbers to justice.
