Darrell Janis, Abusive Sexual Contact, South Dakota 2017

A disturbing case of child abuse has shaken the community of Kyle, South Dakota. Darrell Janis, a 58-year-old man from the same town, has been sentenced for two counts of Abusive Sexual Contact.

The crime took place on December 11, 2015, when Janis used force to have sexual contact with a child, who was between the ages of 12 and 16, at Kyle.

Janis was indicted by a federal grand jury in October 2016, and after a trial in Federal District Court in Rapid City on May 11, 2017, he was found guilty.

Chief Judge Jeffrey L. Viken of the U.S. District Court sentenced Janis to 8 years in custody, followed by 5 years of supervised release, and ordered him to pay a $200 special assessment to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.
