Dashawn Trevell Brown, RICO Conspiracy, South Carolina 2023

A violent street gang member has been sentenced to 20 years in prison for his role in a RICO conspiracy.

Dashawn Trevell Brown, 24, of Walterboro, South Carolina, was sentenced to 240 months in prison by U.S. District Court Judge David C. Norton.

Brown was a member of the Cowboys gang, a violent street gang that originated in the ‘Eastside’ area of Walterboro, South Carolina.

The Cowboys gang was known for its violent behavior, including shootings and threats, which left innocent bystanders seriously injured.

Brown was identified as a key player in four shootings committed on behalf of his membership as a Cowboys gang member.

On May 12, 2011, Brown fired shots at an individual believed to be a member of a rival gang, leading to a retaliatory shooting on May 14, 2011, which seriously injured an innocent bystander.

Brown was also involved in a drive-by shooting on June 30, 2013, in the Druid Hills area of Walterboro, which resulted in injuries to the victim’s arm.

Additionally, Brown was involved in a shooting at the Starlite Lounge in St. George on July 14, 2013, which left a victim seriously injured.

Brown’s sentence also includes three years of supervised release and restitution for victims injured as a result of his criminal activity.

The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Charlotte, North Carolina Field Division, and the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.
