David Alan Callison, Meth Conspiracy, Iowa 2019

DES MOINES, IA – A Des Moines man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for his role in a methamphetamine conspiracy.

David Alan Callison, 56, was found guilty of Conspiracy to Distribute Methamphetamine and was sentenced to 152 months in prison. He will also serve a five-year term of supervised release after his prison term.

The investigation into Callison’s activities revealed that he repeatedly obtained large quantities of methamphetamine for redistribution. In April 2019, law enforcement stopped a car in which Callison was a passenger and found over 600 grams of methamphetamine, more than $13,000, and a digital scale.

Callison was on parole when he committed the offense, which has put him in a more severe situation with the law. The case against him and his co-defendants was investigated by the Des Moines Police Department, assisted by the Mid-Iowa Narcotics Enforcement Task Force and the Iowa Division of Narcotics Enforcement.

Callison’s co-defendants were sentenced last year. Angel Luis Toledo Castillo, 37, received a 162-month sentence, Demetrio Cortes Montano, 46, received a 139-month sentence, and Gustavo Martinez, 30, received a 120-month sentence for their roles in the conspiracy.

United States Attorney Richard D. Westphal announced the sentencing. The case was prosecuted by the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa.

Callison’s sentence serves as a reminder of the severe consequences of methamphetamine trafficking in Iowa. The state continues to grapple with the effects of the opioid epidemic, and cases like Callison’s highlight the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat the issue.

In the end, Callison’s choice to engage in methamphetamine trafficking has led to a lengthy prison sentence, serving as a warning to others who might consider following in his footsteps.
