A Lawrence, Massachusetts man has been sentenced to 41 months in prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking conspiracy that spanned into New Hampshire.
David Alexander Arias, 31, was sentenced to 41 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to distribute fentanyl. The crime was committed in multiple locations, including Nashua and Salem, New Hampshire, where Arias and a co-defendant would meet with a New Hampshire distributor to provide fentanyl for redistribution in the Manchester area.
According to court documents, the conspiracy involved more than 1.2 kilograms of fentanyl, a highly lethal substance. Arias was not alone in the conspiracy, as three co-defendants, Migdalia Cintron, Alvaro Garcia, and Ramon Paniagua Perez, have also pleaded guilty and are awaiting sentencing.
The investigation into the fentanyl trafficking ring was led by the Drug Enforcement Administration. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Seth Aframe.
‘Fentanyl trafficking makes a lethal substance immediately available for purchase in this state,’ said U.S. Attorney Scott W. Murray. ‘Overall, the results have been catastrophic for drug users and their families. In order to curtail trafficking, we are working closely with our law enforcement partners to identify and prosecute the drug dealers who do business here.’
‘DEA is committed to investigating Drug Trafficking Organizations and individuals like Mr. Arias who are responsible for distributing lethal drugs like fentanyl to the citizens of New Hampshire,’ said DEA Special Agent in Charge Brian D. Boyle. ‘Let this sentence be a warning to those traffickers who are coming from out of state to distribute this poison in order to profit and destroy people’s lives. DEA’s top priority is combatting the opioid epidemic by working with our local, county, state and federal partners to bring to justice anyone who distributes deadly drugs.’
The sentencing of David Alexander Arias is a significant blow to the fentanyl trafficking ring, which had been operating in New Hampshire for some time. The case highlights the importance of law enforcement efforts to combat the opioid epidemic and bring those responsible for distributing lethal substances to justice.
