A 30-year-old Stamford man, DAVID JEUNE, also known as “Junie” and “June Bug,” has been sentenced to 40 months in federal prison for selling a sawed-off shotgun and cocaine. This sentence is the result of an investigation headed by the ATF and the Bridgeport and New Haven Police Departments, known as “Operation Samson,” which targeted violent criminals, illegal firearm possession, and firearm trafficking.
According to court documents and statements made in court, on March 3, 2014, JEUNE sold a sawed-off Mossberg model Regal 500 shotgun to an undercover agent in exchange for $350. The following day, JEUNE and another individual sold approximately one ounce of cocaine to the undercover agent in exchange for $1,250.
Prior to March 2014, JEUNE had been convicted of felony robbery and larceny offenses. His history of violent crime made his latest offenses even more egregious, and his sentence reflects the severity of his actions.
JEUNE has been detained since his arrest on April 2, 2014. On March 12, 2015, he pleaded guilty to one count of possession of a firearm by a previously convicted felon and one count of possession with intent to distribute, and distribution of, cocaine.
This case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney H. Gordon Hall, and the sentence was handed down by U.S. District Judge Robert N. Chatigny in Hartford. JEUNE will serve 40 months of imprisonment, followed by three years of supervised release.
The investigation that led to JEUNE’s sentence, “Operation Samson,” was a large-scale effort involving approximately 40 ATF special agents and personnel from Connecticut and across the country. They worked with New Haven and Bridgeport Police to conduct numerous covert operations in the spring of 2014, targeting violent criminals and illegal firearm possession.
Deirdre M. Daly, United States Attorney for the District of Connecticut, announced the sentencing, highlighting the importance of taking violent criminals off the streets and holding them accountable for their actions. The sentence of 40 months in federal prison for DAVID JEUNE serves as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in such serious crimes.
