Child Sexual Abuse Image Distributor Sentenced in New Jersey
A Toms River man was sentenced to 70 months in prison for distributing images of child sexual abuse over a social media application, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito announced.
David Nelson, 44, pleaded guilty to an information charging him with distribution of child pornography before U.S. District Judge Freda L. Wolfson.
Nelson was arrested on April 9, 2018 after a search of his cell phone revealed chat group communications between him and another Kik user operating under the user name ‘candicesloan1995.’
According to documents filed in this case, Nelson admitted to transmitting at least 26 images of child pornography to another Kik user between October 24, 2017, and October 26, 2017. He also admitted to being an administrator of multiple Kik chat rooms in which child pornography was shared and discussed.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Wolfson sentenced Nelson to five years of supervised release.
U.S. Attorney Carpenito credited FBI special agents for the investigation leading to Nelson’s sentencing, as well as the Toms River Police Department for its assistance.
