ST. LOUIS – In a shocking turn of events, U.S. District Judge Matthew T. Schelp handed down an 86-month prison sentence to Davion Dixon, a 22-year-old felon from Ferguson, Missouri. Dixon was found guilty of multiple felonies, including possession with the intent to distribute fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine base.
The investigation began on October 31, 2022, when Dixon was involved in a shooting in Richmond Heights, Missouri. He was driving a stolen BMW with several others when the vehicle crashed after a shooting. Dixon discarded an AR-style pistol as he fled the scene and was later arrested in a nearby backyard. This was not Dixon’s first run-in with the law, as he was arrested again on March 23, 2023, on a warrant from St. Louis County Circuit Court.
During the second arrest, officers discovered an AR-style pistol, a 60-round magazine, and an auto sear, which is defined as a machine gun under federal law. The auto sear was found inside Dixon’s home, along with 16.67 grams of meth, 56 capsules containing fentanyl, and 2.078 grams of cocaine base. Dixon pleaded guilty in May to five felonies, including being a felon in possession of a machine gun and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The St. Louis County Police Department, the Richmond Heights Police Department, and the FBI worked together to investigate the case, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski prosecuting the case. This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program that aims to reduce violent crime and gun violence by bringing together law enforcement and the community.
Dixon’s case is a prime example of the consequences of gun and drug crimes. With the help of law enforcement and the community, we can work towards a safer and more secure future for everyone. The sentence handed down by Judge Schelp is a reminder that those who engage in such activities will face severe consequences.
This case highlights the importance of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and its commitment to reducing violent crime and gun violence. By working together, we can create safer communities and prevent violent crimes from occurring in the first place.
