Dayton man David Allen Antonio Flemings, Jr., 22, stormed into a Brookville Rite Aid on July 5, 2018, and walked out with bags of narcotics after threatening staff with a handwritten note claiming it was an armed robbery. Now, he’s admitted his guilt in federal court.
Flemings approached the pharmacy counter and slapped down a chilling demand: “Put Note Back In the Bag. This a armed Robbery. These are the Government pills, not yours or worth your life. I’m willing to kill. Don’t push no silent alarms. Fill 2 bags.” The note, torn from page 78 of a book titled *Common Sense Parenting*, listed specific drugs he wanted—government-issued pills, he claimed, not worth dying for.
Inside the Brookville pharmacy, workers froze. The pharmacist and technician both noticed the page’s origin—its torn edge, the book’s title. They complied, handing over the narcotics under threat. Flemings fled with the drugs, but left behind the note—his fatal mistake.
That discarded note became the linchpin of the case. Investigators recovered it and sent it to the Miami Valley Regional Crime Laboratory. Fingerprints lifted from the paper matched David Allen Antonio Flemings, Jr. directly. Physical evidence sealed his fate.
Flemings pleaded guilty in U.S. District Court to one count of robbery and one count of possessing oxycodone with intent to distribute. Both charges carry a maximum penalty of 20 years in prison. U.S. District Judge Michael H. Watson accepted the plea, setting sentencing for a later date.
Benjamin C. Glassman, U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Ohio, praised the joint investigation by the ATF and Brookville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorneys David J. Bosley and Kelly A. Norris are prosecuting the case. “Robbing a pharmacy at gunpoint is a violent crime with real consequences,” Glassman said. “Justice will be served.” # # #
