Raleigh, North Carolina – In a brazen display of gun violence, Defonte Kentrial Williams, 25, of Grifton, allegedly seized a firearm and pointed it at one of the dealers during a marijuana purchase dispute on January 2, 2017.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of North Carolina, Williams and an associate decided to purchase marijuana in Pitt County, North Carolina. However, a dispute arose during the purchase, leading Williams to seize the firearm and point it at one of the dealers.
Williams then chased the dealer into a field at gunpoint and robbed them of marijuana at gunpoint. The incident occurred on January 2, 2017.
Williams was charged in a one-count indictment on July 11, 2017, and pled guilty to one count on July 9, 2018. Judge W. Earl Britt sentenced Williams to 68 months’ imprisonment followed by 3 years of supervised release on January 24, 2019.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a program aimed at reducing violent crime and making communities safer. The investigation was conducted by the Raleigh Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms & Explosives (ATF). Assistant United States Attorney Erin Blondel handled the prosecution of this case for the government.
