Delaware Man Sentenced to 35 Years for Sex Crimes
A Delaware man has been sentenced to 35 years in prison for his conviction on 11 counts of traveling to have sex with a minor and one count of aggravated sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.
John Angell, 41, of Smyrna, Delaware, was found guilty of repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor while working as a driver for the victim’s father, who lived in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. The abuse occurred between 2001 and 2007, as Angell drove the victim between their father’s house in Pennsylvania and their mother’s house in New York.
According to court documents, Angell would stop at various rest areas during these trips, where he would carry out the abuse. The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Michelle Morgan.
U.S. District Court Judge William H. Yohn, Jr. handed down the sentence, which includes 15 years of supervised release. Angell was also ordered to pay a $2,200 special assessment and a $1,000 fine.
The sentence is a culmination of a lengthy investigation and prosecution that brought justice to the victim and their family. The case serves as a stark reminder of the devastating impact of child abuse and the importance of holding perpetrators accountable.
The Federal Bureau of Investigation and the United States Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania worked tirelessly to bring Angell to justice, and their hard work has resulted in a sentence that reflects the severity of his crimes.
