A 42-year-old man from Jamaica is heading to Federal prison for 41 months after being found guilty of threatening a Federal official in Georgia.
Delroy Anthony McLean, who will be deported to Jamaica after serving his sentence, was convicted of threatening Federal Judge Sandra Arrington-Dempsey and her husband at the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia.
The threats were made during a hearing at the facility in 2016, with McLean vowing to ‘bash the head’ of the judge and repeating his threats outside the courtroom.
U.S. Attorney G. F. ‘Pete’ Peterman, III, stated that Federal judges should be free from threats and intimidation while carrying out their duties, and that respect for law and the courts is essential to the functioning of the judicial system.
‘This substantial sentence should make clear that behavior such as that of Mr. McLean will not be tolerated in the Middle District of Georgia,’ Peterman added.
The case was investigated by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, with Assistant United States Attorney Melvin E. Hyde, Jr. prosecuting the case on behalf of the Government.
