Dennis Omar Escobar-Castro, Transporting and Harboring Illegal Aliens, Mississippi 2019

Jackson, Mississippi – A Texas resident has been sentenced to 30 months in prison for his role in a human trafficking operation in which he transported and harbored illegal aliens.

Dennis Omar Escobar-Castro, 30, was sentenced to 30 months in prison, to be followed by three years of supervised release, and a fine of $1200, for his role in transporting and harboring aliens. Escobar-Castro was also found to have been driving a Chevy Suburban with Texas license plates eastbound on Interstate I-20 when a Rankin County Sheriff’s Deputy made a traffic stop for careless driving.

The investigation revealed that Escobar-Castro had been driving the 11 passengers from Houston, Texas, to Atlanta, Georgia, to take them to work, and at least one passenger claimed to have paid $1,000 for the ride.

The case was investigated by Special Agents with Homeland Security Investigations’ Jackson Division and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office, who assisted with the discovery and arrest of Escobar-Castro.

Escobar-Castro was originally indicted in April 2019 and pled guilty to the charges on March 25, 2021.

“This sentence serves as a reminder that human trafficking is a serious crime that will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” said Acting U.S. Attorney Darren J. LaMarca. “We commend the work of the Special Agents with HSI’s Jackson Division and the Rankin County Sheriff’s Office for their dedication to investigating and prosecuting these types of cases.
