Denton Man Arrested for Multi-Million Dollar Methamphetamine Trafficking Ring

A federal grand jury indicted 32-year-old Jason McConahay, of Denton, Texas, on multiple charges of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, announced U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas, Prerak Shah.

According to the indictment, McConahay was the leader of a multi-million dollar methamphetamine trafficking ring that operated in the Northern District of Texas and elsewhere. The indictment alleges that McConahay and his co-conspirators distributed and possessed with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, resulting in a significant increase in methamphetamine-related crime in the region.

The indictment charges McConahay with one count of conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, one count of possession with intent to distribute more than 500 grams of methamphetamine, and one count of money laundering. If convicted, McConahay faces up to life in federal prison and a fine of up to $10,000,000.

The case was investigated by the FBI’s Dallas Field Office, with assistance from the Denton Police Department and the Texas Department of Public Safety. Assistant U.S. Attorneys, Matthew K. Kuba and, and Assistant U.S. Attorney, Christopher M. Perras, are prosecuting the case.

The indictment, which was returned on September 28, 2022, was unsealed upon the arrest of McConahay on January 24, 2023. McConahay is currently in custody and will appear before U.S. Magistrate Judge, Kimberly C. Priest Johnson for a detention hearing.
