On April 29, 2021, the United States government filed a federal case against Derek Thompson in the United States District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. On December 1, 2022, Thompson pleaded guilty to both counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm and possession of a machine gun. Thompson was subsequently sentenced to 12 years of imprisonment. As of the date of this report, Thompson remains incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary, Greenville, Illinois.
