In a shocking turn of events, Derek Waters, a 32-year-old resident of Baltimore, Maryland, was brought to justice for his involvement in a string of violent crimes that shook the community.
The case, filed on December 18, 2012, in the United States District Court for the District of Maryland, charged Waters with multiple offenses, including two counts of attempted murder, one count of assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
According to court documents, Waters was accused of shooting at two individuals on separate occasions, leaving them with serious injuries. The investigation, led by the Baltimore Police Department, revealed that Waters had been using a firearm with an altered serial number, a federal offense.
The trial, which began on September 15, 2013, saw Waters’ defense team arguing that the evidence against their client was circumstantial and that the prosecution had failed to link him directly to the crimes. However, the prosecution presented a compelling case, including eyewitness testimony and forensic evidence, which ultimately swayed the jury.
On October 22, 2013, the jury delivered a guilty verdict on all counts, finding Derek Waters responsible for the violent crimes. Waters was subsequently sentenced to 25 years in prison, with five years of supervised release following his release.
