Columbus Woman Indicted for Allegedly Helping FBI Shooting Suspect Evade Police
A 20-year-old Columbus woman has been indicted on multiple charges for allegedly helping a wanted individual evade law enforcement following a shooting at an FBI agent last month.
Derijuana Porter, a resident of Columbus, Georgia, was charged with one count of possession of a stolen firearm, one count of misprision of a felony, and two counts of false statement to a federal agency, according to a federal indictment returned on September 14, 2023.
The indictment alleges that Porter possessed a stolen firearm and failed to report it to authorities. She was also accused of making false statements to federal agents in relation to the case.
Porter faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for the possession of a stolen firearm. She also faces up to 3 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for misprision of a felony, and up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine for each of the two counts of false statements to a federal agency.
The total potential sentence for Porter is up to 18 years in prison and $750,000 in fines. The case is being investigated by the FBI and the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Office, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Chris Williams prosecuting the case.
The incident in question occurred at an FBI agent, leading to a search for the suspect. Porter’s alleged involvement in helping the suspect evade police has led to her indictment and potential severe penalties.
