Heroin Trafficking Ring Busted in Warren Ohio
Four individuals have been indicted for their roles in a conspiracy to mail heroin from California to the Warren area in Ohio. Derrick Eggleston, 31, of Warren, and Rachael Sherman, 38, also of Warren, are charged alongside Alexander Zamudio, 43, and Zoany Zamudio, 38, both of Victorville, California.
According to the indictment, the defendants conspired to possess with the intent to distribute and to distribute more than 100 grams of heroin between September 2015 and November 2015. Alexander Zamudio sent heroin through the U.S. mail from California to Sherman’s residence in Warren. Eggleston then picked up the heroin from that residence and compensated Sherman, as stated in the indictment.
The defendants’ sentences will be determined by the court after review of factors unique to this case, including their prior criminal records, if any, their roles in the offense, and the characteristics of the violations. If convicted, the statutory maximum sentence will not be exceeded, and in most cases, it will be less than the maximum.
The investigation preceding the indictment was conducted by the United States Postal Inspection Service. The case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. States Attorney David M. Toepfer.
An indictment is only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. A defendant is entitled to a fair trial in which it will be the government’s burden to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. Derrick Eggleston, Rachael Sherman, Alexander Zamudio, and Zoany Zamudio will face the consequences of their alleged actions in the court of law.
