Martinsburg Man Sentenced to 12 Years for Fentanyl Trafficking

MARTINSBURG, WEST VIRGINIA – A Berkeley County man has been sentenced to 12 years in federal prison for his role in a fentanyl trafficking operation.

Derrick Dwayne Myers, 46, of Martinsburg, was sentenced to 150 months in federal prison for possession with intent to distribute fentanyl, according to the Department of Justice.

Myers was accused of selling controlled substances from a motel in Martinsburg, where investigators conducted searches and seized a large haul of illicit substances, including fentanyl, heroin, methamphetamine, and eutylone.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher prosecuted the case on behalf of the government, while the Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, led the investigation.

U.S. District Judge Gina M. Groh presided over the case, which has resulted in Myers serving three years of supervised release following his prison sentence.

Myers’s arrest and sentencing serve as a reminder of the ongoing threat of fentanyl trafficking in the region. The highly addictive and deadly substance has become a major concern for law enforcement agencies and public health officials.

The Eastern Panhandle Drug Task Force will continue to work tirelessly to disrupt and dismantle fentanyl trafficking operations in the area.

In a statement, Assistant U.S. Attorney Lara Omps-Botteicher said, ‘The defendant’s actions put countless lives at risk, and we are committed to holding individuals accountable for their role in the opioid epidemic.’
