WASHINGTON D.C. – Derrick Thomas Martin, 33, a repeat offender, is facing a long stretch behind bars after a DC jury slammed him with federal drug and gun charges yesterday. The bust went down November 25th, 2024, at an apartment on Pennsylvania Avenue SE when cops moved to arrest Martin on a warrant out of Maryland.
Instead of complying, Martin chucked a backpack out the window. Inside, officers found a loaded Century Arms Micro Draco – basically a miniature AK-47 – along with roughly 700 grams of cocaine and a staggering 5,700+ fentanyl pills. The location wasn’t just any building; a child was reportedly sleeping nearby.
U.S. Attorney Jeanine Ferris Pirro didn’t mince words, calling Martin a “career criminal” who posed a “clear danger” to the community. Martin’s record shows a hefty 31 prior arrests.
The jury didn’t take long, returning a guilty verdict on all four counts: possession with intent to distribute over 100 grams of fentanyl, possession with intent to distribute 500 grams of cocaine, being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammo, and possessing a firearm during drug trafficking. He’s looking at a minimum of 15 years when sentenced on July 10, 2026, before Judge Trevor N. McFadden.
Cops initially went to the apartment to pick him up on old charges from Cecil County, Maryland – also involving firearms and drug distribution, charges he skipped court on.
