Desert Deceivers Brought to Justice: Opium Smugglers Caught in LA

In a daring operation, United States customs officials have seized a whopping 15,000 dollars’ worth of opium and arrested two men suspected of smuggling it into Los Angeles. T. J. Murphy and M. L. Harris, allegedly members of a notorious gang of opium smugglers, were apprehended by customs officials on a Southern Pacific train en route from Vuma to Los Angeles, just after passing through Colton. The pair was taken into custody and later held by United States Commissioner Van Dyke in bail of 5,000 dollars.
