Desteny Estrella Leilani Salazar, Failure to Appear, California 2024

A brazen burglary at a Vacaville gun store has led to a new set of charges for a 24-year-old South San Francisco woman. Desteny Estrella Leilani Salazar, 24, of South San Francisco, was charged with failure to appear after failing to show up for a court-ordered hearing in her original case.

In 2020, Salazar was charged with possession of stolen firearms and burglary of a federally-licensed firearms dealer. The case is the product of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

According to court documents, Salazar’s failure to appear for the hearing has landed her in hot water. If convicted of failure to appear, Salazar faces a maximum statutory penalty of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Salazar’s original case, which charged her with possession of stolen firearms and burglary of a federally-licensed firearms dealer, carries a maximum statutory penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000 for both counts.

The case is currently being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Justin Lee. The charges are only allegations; the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.

Salazar’s current whereabouts are unknown, and it is unclear when the case will go to trial. Grimy Times will continue to follow this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
