Detroit Man Convicted of Oxycodone Trafficking

A Detroit man has been convicted of conspiring to sell oxycodone in the Ohio Valley, according to a guilty plea in federal court.

Sharod D. Nickelson, 44, of Detroit, Michigan, was convicted of one count of "Conspiracy to Possession with Intent to Distribute and to Distribute Oxycodone" in a federal court in West Virginia.

Nickelson conspired with other individuals to possess and sell oxycodone throughout the Ohio Valley, according to the charges. He faces up to 20 years in prison and a fine of up to $1,000,000.

Nickelson’s conviction was announced by United States Attorney William J. Ihlenfeld, II. Assistant U.S. Attorney Robert McWilliams prosecuted the case on behalf of the government.

The Ohio Valley Drug and Violent Crime Task Force, a HIDTA-funded initiative, investigated the case. Senior U.S. District Judge Frederick P. Stamp, Jr. presided over the federal court proceedings.

Nickelson’s sentencing will be based upon the seriousness of the offenses and his prior criminal history, if any. The exact sentence will be determined by the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.

Sharod D. Nickelson will be remembered for his involvement in the oxycodone trafficking ring, which poses a significant threat to public health and safety in the Ohio Valley.
